The Summit Advantage

Your buying process begins by selecting a Summit body style and a chassis. Chassis options include Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Dodge, and Ford. Secondly, your salesman will take you through a pre-approval design process to ensure you know what you’re getting. Next, we send your truck to production, using state-of-the-art equipment and quality processes to build bodies to your spec. As a result, our service truck bodies perform in rugged and remote work environments for years to come.

Your truck body is a vital tool for your business. That’s why we make it easy for you to reach our factory-based customer support team 24/7. They are ready and waiting to assist you with parts and technical support.

Up Next | Safety

Safety

We all know that protecting people is a big priority. Therefore, we’ve made it our goal to improve the safety of our custom work truck bodies. We developed and continue to improve our Advanced Safety Electronics (ASE) control system to do just that. Since the beginning, ASE features have taken the guesswork out of safe crane use and reduced job site hazards. Further, our user-friendly control system improves efficiency, and we can incorporate telematics data into your fleet management solution.

Our Capabilities & Process

Summit Truck Bodies' 132,000 square foot production facility in Wathena, Kansas, makes shipping anywhere in North America convenient and cost-effective. Being vertically integrated helps us meet the demand for custom builds by providing the highest quality products and the industry's best ongoing customer support. Each day the same craftsmen weld, paint, assemble and test each body to achieve the goal of consistent, long-lasting quality.

The design process begins when you have made a purchase agreement. We use computer-aided 3D design software, adding the options and accessories you specify as part of your approval package. Once you approve the design, we create a work order and send your truck to the production floor.

Next is the fabrication process; operators load pre-programmed computer-aided fiber laser cutting machines with raw steel and aluminum. Then, we make precision bends using press brakes for manufacturing proficiency.

In the welding phase, highly trained welders and robotic welding stations incorporate speed and accuracy in the manufacturing process. We inspect each weld before moving on to paint prep.

Our paint prep staff will prepare the body for paint and protective coatings. Painters then take each body through the Delfleet three-step paint process, consisting of a phosphate wash, PPG epoxy primer, and PPG Delfleet topcoat. Line-X and rubberized underbody coating are now applied.

Meanwhile, our chassis prep team equips the chassis and cab. A technician installs the PTO and electrical and makes suspension modifications.

Moving on to final assembly, our specialized service & lube body technicians mount the bodies to the chassis with our body mount system providing rigor and strength. They assemble and install cranes, electrical and hydraulic components, lube systems, and other accessories. Quality control personnel ensures products meet quality standards and customer specs.

Before leaving the factory, our detailers thoroughly clean each truck from top to bottom and install safety decals. At this time, Yellow Frog Graphics will install custom-designed decals and wraps.
