At this year’s Minexpo International, we’re proud to showcase the latest version of our Gunnison Edition service truck, a 4×4 lifted 7 Series vehicle specifically designed to handle rugged, off-road environments. This isn’t the first Gunnison truck we’ve built, but this model has some notable enhancements, including a prototype hydraulic crane that adds to its versatility. Built for heavy-duty tasks, the Gunnison Edition is the ultimate solution for industries that need reliable equipment in challenging conditions like mining.
The Legacy of the Gunnison Edition
The Gunnison Edition service truck has been a proven performer in the field, built to withstand the toughest environments and offer unparalleled durability. With a foundation on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 6500HD 4×4 chassis, this truck has a GVWR of 22,500 lbs and is powered by a Duramax® 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine, delivering a robust 350 horsepower. Its Allison® 2700 Rugged Duty Series™ 6-speed automatic transmission ensures smooth performance even in the harshest conditions, while the exhaust brake adds extra control on steep descents, making the truck ideal for rough terrains.
To handle the demands of off-road operations, the Gunnison Edition features a 2.5” leaf spring lift and is fitted with Hutchinson 20×11 forged aluminum wheels, complete with internal double bead locks. Paired with Continental 365/80R20 MPT81 tires, this setup gives the truck exceptional traction and stability, allowing it to confidently navigate uneven, muddy, or rocky surfaces without compromising performance.
Introducing the Prototype Hydraulic Crane
The 2024 Gunnison Edition introduces a prototype hydraulic crane designed to meet the diverse needs of service operations. Although not yet a full production model, this crane enhances the truck’s lifting capabilities, making it indispensable for mining, construction, and other heavy industries.
The crane offers reliable performance, helping crews handle moderate lifting tasks in tight or challenging spaces. The prototype crane ensures stability and ease of use with hydraulic controls and rear outriggers. While still in the testing phase, this crane has shown potential to complement the robust nature of the Gunnison Edition, further enhancing its ability to perform in extreme environments. You’ll hear more about this crane in 2025.
Designed for Durability and Functionality
True to its lineage, the Gunnison Edition continues to be a workhorse with exceptional durability. The truck’s body is constructed from 12-gauge galvannealed steel, offering corrosion resistance and strength to withstand harsh working conditions. The 11-foot long body and 22” deep side packs provide ample storage for tools and equipment. Multiple compartment configurations and aluminum bonded doors with full-length piano-style hinges ensure that everything is secure, organized, and accessible when you need it.
One of the truck’s standout features is its lighting system, designed to make nighttime operations as smooth as daytime tasks. From LED strip lighting in the compartments to scene lights and fog lights, the Gunnison Edition ensures that your work can continue safely, regardless of the hour.
